CELIA DUBOSE

Meet Celia DuBose

Jess chats with Celia about her career as an activist and her journey as a songwriter, singer, and bass player. They discuss the all -female band called Z Axis that Celia co-founded in the 80s that made the local college charts and opened for acts including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus and Billy Idol.

Learn about the group Celia played in next called Vakani Mawethu, which performed South African freedom songs and was affiliated with the African National Congress. And the World Beat bands she has played in with her husband, Eric "Doc" Smith, a drummer and fellow traveler. Celia is currently writing and producing a documentary film on a climate solution she has championed for the last 15 years about low carbon biofuels in California.

Celia explains the Perennial Philosophy, best summed up in a quote by Mister Elkhart: "Theologians may quarrel, but the mystic of the world speak the same language".

Celia is an inspiration as a human, a woman, a musician and a friend. And we were so honored to have her on our show!
